Closed-loop hunting paradigm (2024)
How do you study naturalistic hunting behavior in a laboratory setting? At the Meister Lab (Caltech), I contributed to a closed-loop system that let a NeuroPixels-implanted mouse pursue a “robotic prey,” a chocolate chip that evaded the mouse with probabilistic strategies borrowed from escapology research (Domenici et al., 2008). This system allowed us to ask questions of how mouse perform task-switching and execute diverse strategies in response to dynamic external and internal states.
